Since Agatha Christie started publishing detective novels in 1920, her works have been ripe for adaptation. Now, Netflix is throwing their hat in the ring with their first project based on a Christie book, Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, which is drawn from her 1929 novel, The Seven Dials Mystery. Surprisingly, Seven Dials has only been adapted once before, as a 1981 television film.
The plot is set in September 1925, following young aristocrat Lady Eileen Brent, who goes by Bundle. She’s attending a masquerade party at her country home when a guest—who happens to be her boyfriend—is murdered. “If this show can be the gateway drug to introduce a whole new generation into Agatha Christie’s books and adaptations, that would be a joy. It would be repaying all the joy that she’s brought to my life and billions of readers,” creator Chris Chibnall, of Broadchurch fame, said.
