Offensive tackle Trent Williams and the San Francisco 49ers have reached agreement on a two-year, $50 million contract extension, his agents announced on Monday.

The new contract includes $37 million in guaranteed money for the 15-year veteran and a $22 million signing bonus. With the deal, Williams becomes the first non-quarterback in NFL history to earn more $400 million in contract value and $225 million in guaranteed money, according to his agency Elite Loyalty Sports.

Williams, 37, was in the final year of a three-year, $82.6 million deal that he signed in 2024. He is set to be paid a base salary of $32.6 million this season with a salary cap hit of $46 million for the 49ers. San Francisco declined Williams’ $10 million option in March, which led to rumors that a trade or release might be imminent.

With Williams now locked in at left tackle for the next three years, the question becomes whether or not the 49ers will focus on a position besides offensive line with their first-round selection in Thursday’s NFL Draft. Yahoo Sports’ Nate Tice and Charles McDonald projected San Francisco to draft Clemson OT Blake Miller with the No. 21 pick in their latest mock draft.

Considering head coach Kyle Shanahan’s emphasis on the run game, the 49ers may still look at offensive line as a long-term investment and possible replacement for Williams in the future. Shanahan may also want to improve on a rushing attack that finished 24th in the NFL last season.

However, this signing could now free up general manager John Lynch to address other positions such as edge rusher or safety.

Williams’ extension is the latest among offseason moves for San Francisco, including signing free-agent receivers Mike Evans and Christian Kirk, bringing back linebacker Dre Greenlaw and trading for defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa. Shanahan also added former Atlanta Falcons coach Raheem Morris to his staff as defensive coordinator.

Last season, Williams started 16 games for the 49ers, allowing four sacks and committing four penalties in 996 offensive snaps, according to Pro Football Focus. He has started 84 games at left tackle for the 49ers during the past six seasons, earning five Pro Bowl berths and first-team All-NFL four times.

Williams played the first nine years of his NFL career with the Washington Commanders, collecting another seven Pro Bowl nods. He was the team’s 2010 first-round pick (No. 4 overall) out of Oklahoma. Washington traded him to the 49ers before the 2020-21 season.
