Billionaire entrepreneur Mark Cuban says his children often feel the pressure that comes with wealth because higher standards are placed on them as the children of a rich parent.

Talking about the challenges of being wealthy on comedian Theo Von's podcast, Cuban said his wealth puts pressure on his kids because people know they will one day inherit his money. He said he makes sure his kids understand the high expectations and responsibilities that come with his wealth.

"It’s not their life, they inherited us, and I mean it’s not necessarily bad but it’s not necessarily easy either to have somebody well-known as your dad," Cuban said. "I told all my kids, ‘Look, your friends just f**k up and their parents get mad, you f**k up, it’s on the front page of the paper because you’re my kid, so you’ve got to be a little bit extra careful.'"

‘When You're There, Everything Changes'

Cuban said his children often tell him they want to be "normal" and feel that his presence changes how others treat them. He said his kids sometimes ask him to stay away in certain situations so they can have a more genuine experience, without people reacting differently because of who he is.

"My son told me the other day, ‘No dad, when you’re there, everything changes. I just want to be normal,'" Cuban said. "It happens with all my kids, it’s just like there’s a time for dad to be there and there’s a time we don’t want dad there, not because we don’t want dad there, just because the attention he’s going to pull."

Cuban left the business reality TV show "Shark Tank" last year to spend more time with his family and focus on other ventures. But that doesn't mean the startup world has run out of opportunities. Fundrise's venture capital offering was built specifically for individual investors, with low minimums, diversification, and a long-term focus on private technology companies that often remain private for years before going public. They are looking for investors with a $10 investment minimum.

‘Deep Pockets

Cuban said another downside of being wealthy is that people keep suing him in an effort to take his money. He said he has been sued five times in his life, and in four of those cases, the aim was simply to squeeze money out of him.

"They’ll name multiple people in the lawsuits, and they’ll let the other people off the hook, they won’t let me off the hook because I’m the deep pockets," Cuban said.

‘The Most Valuable Thing'

Cuban said he is no different from other parents when it comes to raising teenagers. He said his children are ambitious in their own ways, trying to find their identities and discover who they are. The billionaire said he tries not to be intrusive and instead gives them the space they need.

Cuban said he is making an effort to be more available to his children and spend more time with them.

"I want to take advantage of the time I got," he said. "It’s more family as I’ve gotten older, my kids have gotten older. It’s like, let’s spend more time with them because that’s the most valuable thing to me."
